There are a lot of things I want to say about this movie...like how completely amazing it was! It puts a whole new perspective on the reality of mental illness and it showcases the brilliance of it's stars (Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence). I love them both so much...but that aside this movie spoke volumes to me considering my mother has several mental disabilities so I know the difficulty of living around these. This movie was able to capture it all not only with the plot, but with the cinematography, the dialogue, and the cast. I guess the biggest achievement would be making an average person comprehend how a person with mental illness operates and sees the world...because believe it or not it's vastly different than the way any other person does...but I digress. This film won 1 Oscar (Jennifer Lawrence, best performance by an actress in a leading role) and rightly so. Over all (across all film awards world-wide) it had 77 nominations and 61 wins. If that doesn't explain how wonderful it is then you should quit reading now.

This is what happens when you read A Farewell to Arms. Thanks Hemingway.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> The plot of this movie captures an interesting reality of mental illness. Pat (Bradley Cooper) is a man just come out of an eight month court ordered stay in a mental hospital in Baltimore. He was put there for beating his wife's lover near to death after walking in on the two together. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and shipped off there. After he gets out he stops taking his medication and truly believes his wife will be with him again if he fixes all the problems she had with him. Enter Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence). Her character is as equally jacked as his. You discover her husband died and to cope she became a bit of a sex addict to cope (which she has dealt with before this movie even begins...kinda). The plot circles around these two and the mental problems they have and how they perceive the world and one another. To me it seems a bit scatter-brained, but it also seems like that's how it's meant to be. It's an organized scattered, much like the mind of someone who is bipolar. And that is what makes it unique.
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">

*An excellent example of outlandish dialogue

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> The direction, cinematography, and dialogue blend together to make this movie exciting to watch. The seemingly whimsical way the camera moves at times seems to embody the attitude of the characters and go with their mood swings. Like riding a roller coaster of their emotions, which is exactly what would be happening if you lived with them. The director (David Russell) had to be a genius for making this so well. He knew the struggles of someone with this disorder (his son was bipolar and OCD) and made it a reality on camera. I can't thank him enough for it either. And the dialogue...it was shockingly well done. Some of the things said were outlandish* and a bit crazy, but not the generic shit you usually hear in movies that wish they could be like this. It was the truth of what people like this do...up and down...and then back again. None of these three things would stand without the others because the combination makes the movie what it is...beautifully and brutally honest.
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">

Yes J. Law. I love you.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> My favorite part of this film is the cast. All the characters play off one another beautifully and they actually let this movie change them as people. Robert De Niro (Pat Sr.) actually cried unscripted because of Bradley Cooper's performance. And the way they all fit into their roles, I just can't imagine anyone else being cast in this film. Jennifer Lawrence is a personal favorite of mine though so I guess she has a bit of an advantage...

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> To conclude this rather long praise of this film I just have to say watch it. If you know anyone or have a family member with mental illness this movie might make you understand that it's not entirely something they have control of...if you just love movies then you'll enjoy it because it's a good movie. The only audience I wouldn't recommend this for is children under the age of 14 and that's only due to overuse of the word 'fuck' and the sexual references...change that to nobody under the age of 16.

This movie was...well I'm not sure yet. I saw it opening weekend and I'm still conflicted about my opinion. I love the whole movie, but not exactly as a fan of movies. Do you know what I mean? I'm a fan of the 80s (thank you mom and dad), but as a movie this wasn't what I expected. The story was a little lacking and the music wasn't as spectacular as I wanted it to be. Also I wasn't a fan of Tom Cruise in this movie at all. Like at all at all. I get the character was supposed to be that way, and I know the 80s were weird, but come on. Anyway, lets discuss the weirdness (totally a word) of this movie!

So the plot...well I guess the whole movie is supposed to be an over exaggeration of the 80s so I can't be too hard on it, but I believe they took it a bit too far. Nebraska girl (or Oklahoma or Kansas...whatever) comes to the big city to sing and gets robbed in 5 minutes. Boy wonder gets her a shitty job and they fall in love...they both have a great month or 2 before some falling out which causes him to sell out musically and her to become a stripper (I'm cutting out the musical numbers)...either way, this is all well and good, but the way it's told...it's just too over the top. I can't really think of another good way to explain it so I'll just leave it at this: it's too damn 80s.

The music could have been so much more fantastic than it was! It was the 80s, hello? Music and hair were like the two most important things back then! So why was the music lacking? I'm not really sure. I know they can only do so much because of copyright and all that nonsense, but I guess I just expected better. The mash-ups weren't that great and the rendition of Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing' was so-so. Again, Tom Cruise...ew. Tom Cruise pretending to sing? Double ew. Too much ew for me to even watch. Music overall: lacking severly for an 80s "musical".

Now for Tom Cruise's dedicated bashing paragraph...just no. I mean he's a decent actor, but when it comes to this movie I see no reason for him to even have been mentioned ever. I wasn't a fan of the character though so there is that to consider...but who can like an over exaggerated 80s guy who's first appearance is him rising from a pile of naked women (all guys ever...that's who). He has a monkey follow him around too...was that Tom Cruise's idea? Perhaps not...but I shall blame him all the same. Tom Cruise the monkey was your fault.

To wrap up all I can say is if you want a good laugh and you're a big 80s fan then watch this. If you prefer to watch movies to actually see something entertaining and slightly artistic...this is not your cup of tea. I'll admit I liked it on the level that I am a 20 year old who can laugh at bad jokes and gay acting (SPOILER ALERT: literally...just watch till the end...there's a gay scene). Overall I'd recommend it to older men with nothing better to do on a weeknight after work than grab a beer and laugh at the 80s. Oh and lastly, there are some golden eggs in the movie, old 80s rockers as cameos in crowds or as passers-by. Keep an eye out and...
I got a job. And a boyfriend. And a magical social life. I turned 19 and magically things started going my way. I have seen quite a few movies (The Hobbit, Dark Knight Rises, Wreck it Ralph, Gangster Squad, and a few more) but I'm usually too exhausted to rip them apart piece by piece on the internet. Hopefully I can slowly but surely write out some reviews, but no promises. I definitely won't have The Hobbit up for a while (mostly because I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan so it will be a particularly long article). So here's to hoping I get back in the habit of writing a new review each week. Until then here's a picture that you hopefully find as amusing as I do...

Fifty shades of Grey. The movie. Of course all we have to go on right now are rumors and media hype, but I'm prepared to sort through the facts and find out what I can. Technically I guess this wouldn't be a review, but it's some thoughts on a movie that will eventually come out...so I'm not venturing too far out of my territory here.

So far the only confirmed rumor is that there will indeed be a movie. There have been so many names thrown around as to who will be cast as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, but as far as I can tell there are no set actors or actresses. Here's a list of the top six contenders according to several polls and websites for Mr. Grey...

1. Ian Somerhalder, 33. Mostly known for his performance as Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries or from his short appearance in Lost (he died in season 2 I believe?)

2. Henry Cavill, 29. His most recent notable role was Theseus in Immortals.

3. Matt Bomer, 34. Stars on USA's show White Collar as a con man with sex appeal. Also plays Ken in Magic Mike (and might I say that the rumors about his sexuality being a problem for this role are completely ridiculous...the man is sexy even if he's gay)

4. Alexander Skarsgard, 35. Known mostly for his role as Eric Northman on True Blood, the vampire porn show on HBO (and that's not an insult...I like the show, but it basically is vampire porn)

5. Jessie Pavelka, 29. I really haven't heard of anything he's been in...so here's a link to his IMDB page

6. Shia LaBeouf, 26. He was in Holes. More recently though he played in Eagle Eye and did fairly well.

Well I guess this is going to turn into a big article on who the best Christian Grey might be, but I'm okay with that since that is what most people are interested in knowing about this movie...as stated those six men are the top picks by everyone so far (according to most of the sites I read). Other picks include Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, and Joe Manganiello. As far as the actual casting goes, E.L. James tweeted "I am not making any comments on casting the movie. No one is ruled out or in yet - far too early." I will agree with her, it's way too early to tell anything about casting. However, with the rumors of the actors interested and the multitude of young suave actors who could be approached for the part I'm sure whoever is chosen will be a perfect Mr. Grey.
On a final note, my only real hopes for this movie are that they don't make it too Romeo-and-Juliet-esque and that the casting is done decently. I do apologize for this being solely about one topic, but hopefully I'll be able to write more when more information is available and I'm not looking at 2 AM (also I partly wrote this just to get something new out since I haven't posted in so long). Here's a teaser trailer that was recently released starring Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel as a thank you for putting up with my rambling about Christian Grey...Laters, baby ;)

Well ladies, they finally did it. They made a movie about male strippers. And they did it right. They picked the right actors, the story is good, and it's not just pointless sexy men the whole time (which is a bummer at some points). Overall this movie wasn't bad, and I'm not just saying that as a girl. Although I am mostly saying it as someone who likes original ideas, because lets face it Hollywood is just fresh out of anything good anymore. I don't believe I'll ever go to a theater again to watch a horror film because I have been so disappointed with all the recent ones...but that aside, this movie wasn't a re-gifted movie idea or a prequel or a 70-billionth sequel, or even a twisted obnoxious movie version of a novel! I was honestly just excited because of that fact...or maybe the half naked attractive men dancing on the screen? Eh.

Honestly, this movie had no raw beauty to it, it wasn't shot too well, and there were no specific scenes that stand out in an innovative or creative stand point. However that was not this movies purpose at all. It served its purpose very well...make women feel all warm and tingly in unmentionable places. Two things I can praise however are casting and choreography. Bravo.

Casting was done by Carmen Cuba and may I say again, bravo? I wish I could hug you. Seriously. I may not have found all the guys attractive, but out of the 7 guys I liked 5. Channing Tatum being my favorite...but he already knew what he was doing up there didn't he? ;)

My favorite scene (of course you don't see Matthew, and the only guys chest you get to see is the least buff...the scene as a whole is good though. I promise)

I won't go into immense detail about casting, because if you want to see this movie you should know these very attractive men...I must say, the two that surprised me the most were Joe Manganiello (Big Dick Richie) and Matt Bomer (Ken). These were my second favorite boys next to Mr. Tatum and his fine moving hips...mostly because I was completely unaware they could move like that! Now I'll admit, Kevin Nash is decent for his age and all, but he wasn't right for this movie. He didn't know the moves and it showed in some scenes. I didn't exactly like Alex Pettyfer either because he wasn't muscular or even that toned...and that seems shallow to say, but when the basis of your movie is hot male strippers the actors you pick should have three major qualities: they can act, they're hot and muscular, and they can do a strip tease (or be able to).

This movie has a decent plot as well. Not an Oscar winner by any means, but it's not just half-naked guys dancing around for an hour and a half. There's a story to it...a somewhat sad story with an iffy, somewhat muddled ending, but still...a decent story. You couldn't expect anything amazing in that department. Basically Magic Mike starts tutoring this guy named Adam (nicknamed The Kid) and as Mike realizes he wants out of the business (a tragic loss to the world of male stripping...so tragic) Adam spirals deeper in. I'll leave it at that.

There isn't much else to say about this movie. If you're a female (or a gay man...btw Matt Bomer is gay) with estrogen in your body and hormones raging everywhere you'll love this movie more than anything. Seriously, MALE STRIPPERS. That should be enough to get you excited. If you are any other person on the planet you probably would not like this movie very much. So men, I'm sorry if your wife/girlfriend/significant other drags you to this movie...just be happy she's happy, watching this with her could very well get you sex later. Ladies just remember...these gentlemen can be the husband that you never had, the dream boat guy that never came along, they can be the one night stand that you get to have tonight with them on stage (or movie screen).

The Genetic Opera (Surgery, surgery!)
Repo! The Genetic Opera is much like an amazing never ending rock music video. Now the only other opera I have ever seen was something that was in Italian with subtitles when I was 12 years old and personally I loved it, but compared to that this completely blew my mind! However I'm not sure if I should review this like a movie or an opera...I'm gonna go movie so that I can at least pretend to know what I'm talking about. There are a lot of great aspects about this film due to the fact that it's produced by the same producers as Saw as well as the fact that it may as well be an amazing Gothic Rock music video. The lighting is good, the cinematography is good, and the music is better than anything else in this movie.
Like I said before this is like a cool rock music video, so I'll start with the lighting, effects, and cinematography. All of these are fantastic, there are scenes were guts are spilling everywhere and you can't tell they're fake! Plus the city is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic town built on top of the dead and it looks just like it and gives off the vibe. The camera angles and the way it's shot are perfect for all the moods it tries to give off (mostly grim, but that is the tone of a tragic opera). My favorite scene that portrays all of these is when Blind Mag (Sarah Brightman) shows up at Shilo's (Alexa Vega) house and sings Chase the Morning to Shilo. Her eyes project memories of Marni (Sarah Power) who is Shilo's mother. The lights shine on Blind Mag in the foyer while Shilo watches from the stairs. She seems like an angel as she gives Shilo the only bit of advice any mother figure has ever given her. It's a dramatic and perfectly executed scene.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The plot is of course amazing. If you saw the movie Repo Men (2010) then you know the very loose basis of the plot. There was a serious disease and a company offering organ implants saved all, but at a price. They were able to reposses the organs if you couldn't pay. However, Repo! The Genetic Opera focuses on a young girl named Shilo whose father is Repo Man due to some very unfortunate circumstances after his wifes death. I won't go into much more detail, but I will say that it's got a good twist and it keeps your attention.

The acting is also very good, my personal favorite being the Graverobber (Terrance Zdunich). He acts almost as a narrator throughout the opera and is fantastic in his role. Also, I love his voice! All the other actors and actresses are amazing as well, even Paris Hilton. Her singing really isn't as awful as you'd think. I have to give the biggest credit to Alexa Vega, Anthony Head, and Sarah Brightman. They did great and were greatly believable in their roles. I had no clue the first two could sing so well.

I strongly believe you should see this movie if you like rock music, can stomach a little gore, and don't have strong views against violence in films. There's a little bit about drugs (fictional drugs, but still) and some skimpy outfits (plus a little nudity). Also there is a lot of surgery and blood, so personally I don't recommend this for kids under 13, but that's up to their parents. I thouroughly enjoyed this film, and hope that you do as well. Just pray the Repo Man doesn't come knocking at your door.
AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-64327787293130769412012-06-12T02:13:00.000-07:002012-06-12T02:13:46.828-07:00The Human Centipede 2 (psychological fuckery)

Dear God what can any human being say about this film? And yes, you have to call it a film because (unlike the first film in this series) it wasn't just made for the shock factor. While this film thoroughly disgusted me it was also very well played out and well...it was actually good. If you didn't see the first one then you don't know how pointless and awful it was. Quite honestly the only reason it gained any popularity was due to the fact that tosh.0 featured his own commentary and it was about people being sewn together...so yeah. The whole point was the shock factor. However, this film took it to a whole new level of shock factor and a good plot. This movie shocked me, repulsed me, intrigued me, and made me want to vomit at the same time.

The plot of this movie actually made sense and was fully explained, which compared to the first one was a shock. The first doesn't explain why the Doctor is fascinated with sewing people together and create a human centipede, while this fully explains Martin's obsession with creating a 12 person centipede. That's all I can say about the plot because the rest simply made me want to puke.

I know it is twisted to say this, but this movie was good. It was very psychological and it completely mind fucks you. This movie is definitely not for the feint of heart. It is a complete mind fuck that is twisted in so many ways that it actually manages to be good (in a very twisted sense of the word). The shots in this movie are good, the lighting is good, and the background noise (almost like a soundtrack) is also good. The leading actor Laurence Harvey is amazing at this role which quite honestly scares me a little bit... but in short I think you should watch this film if you want to throw up or if you can stomach all of the disgusting butchery to see the twisted vision that is this film.

Seriously, this is a warning now...if you watch this film (even though it is in black and white) there is blood, murder, cutting, sawing, hacking, sewing, babies dying, and it shows it all. GRAPHICALLY. Watch at your own risk.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> Yeah, I'm reveiwing another total chick-flick. I apologize in advance for being so feminine, but even guys have to admit this movie does not entirely suck. It has good acting, a decent plot, good music (for it's time), and Patrick Swayze. This movie has no special qualities or innovative filming techniques, however it is a classic romantic movie that helped pave the way for the good-girl falls for bad-boy motif. To add to that it has some really good scenes (and by 'really good' I mean really cute) like the water scene where Johnny is teaching Baby how to do the lift. The cherry on top of this cute, girly cake is Patrick Swayze. He is quite theh eye candy and the way he moves his hips at some points is just drool worthy.
Lets start with the acting; all the parts are well executed and well cast. Jennifer Grey plays the perfect girl next door who is searching for something more (I did not intentionally rhyme that) and Patrick Swayze plays the perfect bad boy dancer struggling to make it through. I can't gush about the acting because, while it is good, it has the same curse every 80s movie is plagued with: over acting. It's just my opinion, but they all seem like the actors and acctresses put a lot of effort into acting (some more than others). In some cases it makes the movie bad, or even funny, but this is not one of those cases. It's not over the top, just in the more emotional scenes, so it's reasonable and doesn't ruin the movie.
The plot of the movie is really simple and romantic. It's the summer of 1963 and Baby Houseman (Jennfier Grey) goes to a summer getaway resort with her family. She has no interest in all the rich family activities and while walking stumbles upon the staff party house where they're dancing...well dirty. In short she ends up trying to help some of them out and winds up taking dancing lessons with Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). As the movie goes along you see their relationship and love for one another grow. So clearly this isn't a movie you watch with the boyfriend. To me this isn't a movie you watch curled up alone with ice cream, it's a movie you watch with your chick friends (if they like these kinda movies).
The only things I can gush about in this movie are the romantic scenes, the soudtrack, and Patrick Swayze, so here it goes: The romantic scenes are plenty, and they aren't so much romantic as much as cute. Baby's homey character makes them innocent and sweet instead of sexy and passionate. Don't mistake that for me saying the movie is just cute because that is completely balanced with Johnny's 'I'm-a-badass' attitude. There are sweet scenes like the lift scene in the water, where Johnny is teaching Baby the lift for the performance (below).

There is also the final dance scene to the song 'The Time of my life' that is just amazing in my opinion. However my favorite is when Johnny comes back (you'll have to watch the movie to know exactly what that means) and finds Baby and her family, looks her father right in the eye and says, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." There are lots of other scenes that you just have to watch to see.
I'm going to cover Patricck Swayze and the soundtrack in one paragraph to sum this all up. The soundtrack is great for it's time with sweet songs, sexy songs, and of course great dance songs. I want a copy of the soundtrack before I want a copy of the DVD itself. My last highlight of this film is Patrick Swayze. He's hot, he's muscular, and he can move his hips. And I'm sorry, but a man that can move hips just melts me, haha. The video below is a perfect example of his sexy hips (you have to wait till about 1:48 until his entry though).

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Why hello there! It's been a while, which I apologize for. I was busy with graduation and a social life now that school is no longer in session. Back to film!!! One of the numerous movies that I've viewed since my last entry is The Woman in Black. This movie should have been categorized as a bad psychological horror. I can not even write that much about this because there truly is not much to say. It's difficult to write critiques of horror films anyway, but if they aren't even good you just have nothing to say, so I'll wrap this up quick.

First of all the plot. Let's just rip that to pieces shall we? Here is the chemical equation of a good plot line for a horror movie (as thought up by me):

Start of film: Possible puzzling or unexplained death (that usually makes you afraid right off the bat)/ Main character(s) introduction.

Next: The main character(s) either moves/vacations/visits a new town, or moves back to a hometown where more creepy things happen that the viewer still may not understand.

Middle: The creepy shit is explained and still occuring or popping out randomly while the main character(s) scramble to figure out how to kill/destroy/subdue/put to rest whatever evil plagues them.

End of film: You are now expecting 90% of the scary parts and the main character(s) have discovered and set up a way to dispose of whatever scary evil is plaguing them which in most horror films they accomplish (a few will throw you for a loop and kill everyone letting you believe the villian wins).

This is your standard plot equation, which this movie did not follow. And even though breaking from this equation could end well for some horror films, this one was not one of them. I had no idea why kids were randomly dying, why people were freaking out about the house Daniel Radcliffe's character stayed in, or why anything was actually happening until almost the end of the movie. Even then it's really not explained well by any means. The plot as a whole barely explains the reason for the haunting and (SPOILER ALERT) Daniel Radcliffe and his son (yeah, he plays a dad...I'll get to that in a moment) DIE. And they're shown after death in whatever afterlife they go to. I can deal with main characters dying, but not in the way they did, or for the reason they died. And the whole ghost him and his son scene was pointless and awful. I much rather would have seen them smooshed by the train (terrible I know, but the movie is really THAT bad).

Let's move on to acting and the roles. I'd love to meet the complete moron that made Harry Potter into a widower with a four year old kid? He's not that much older than I am for crying out loud!!!! The only role I feel that he filled well in that movie was father, and I later discovered the boy playing his son in the film is his real life godson which explains that. In my opinion he didn't fit the part (and not just because he's HP, he just couldn't do it right). None of the actors were spectatular, except maybe the dhildren actors and the crazy woman (Daily's wife). So kudos to you few folks.

There isn't anything else I can say about this besides the fact that I do NOT recommend seeing it. Maybe if you're looking for a few jumps (but if you really want that go watch one of the Paranormal Activity movies).

During afternoon tea, there’s a shift in the air.
A bone-trembling chill that tells you she’s there.
There are those who believe the whole town is cursed.
But the house in the marsh is by far the worst.
What she wants is unknown, but she always comes back.
The specter of darkness, the Woman in Black.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">(Just saying, this wasn't in the movie either...)
AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-83871992048589644182012-04-24T16:58:00.000-07:002012-04-24T16:58:56.442-07:00Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (just another spy movie)<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> Your mission, should you choose to accept <span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">it, is to watch this movie without wanting to hunt down the genius who decided to make a 4th Mission: Impossible film and kill him. I'm sorry, but 2 was a little ridiculous, and the third one was just pointless, but a 4th? And still with Tom Cruise??? He stands on a box to be tall enough for Christ's sakes. Although I will admit, this movie series is nowhere near the ridiculous point of the Die Hard film series. Which I can't say is terrible, just run over and beat down to a pulp. I mean what more can you do with Mission: Impossible movies? Tom Cruise, sexy (and often dangerous or lethal) lady, explosions, some guy close to Tom dies, an evil villain wants to kill everyone on our planet (clearly he didn't get enough love as a child), there's lots of hand-to-hand combat, and the quirky side-kick (usually techy) guy that everyone except Tom loves. Well, that was the review. I just told you all you needed to know about any Mission: Impossible movie ever made (FYI, Die Hard is the same...just replace Tom Cruise with Bruce Willis).
I guess I can start with the acting since it's one of the better aspects...which doesn't say much. Tom Cruise plays the intriguing (I'd assume he's supposed to be sexy as well, but I don't find him that attractive)spy for an organization known as IMF, Ethan Hunt. We all know Tom Cruise can act, and I'm not a big fan so I won't gush as I usually do. He's good in this movie and captures the whole mysterious spy persona well. I'm a much bigger fan of the guy who plays Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg). He's a great British actor with a nice comical edge that you have to love. And despite the fact that he is comic relief, he can still be bad ass. Of course Simon Pegg does this wonderfully because, well, that's his role. I'm also a pretty big Jeremy Renner fan, because let's face it, he's attractive ;) haha. He plays William Brandt, and does it well. He's got that whole I've-got-secrets vibe going, but not in a mysterious vibe way. That may sound odd,but you'd have to watch it to appreciate it. I don't have time to go into detail of every actor/actress (especially not the actresses...damn you attractive women!), so I'll just say that everyone fills their niche (look at that, an ecology term! My teacher would be so proud) pretty well and be done with it.
Another thing that's overkill in this movie is the theme song. Don't get me wrong, I've darted around humming this theme like a spy myself once or twice, but in the first 30 minutes you hear it more than once. Three times I believe? I'm not sure. I stopped listening. It's too much, even for an action movie.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">(This isn't the exact theme used in the movie, they modify it, but you get the gist)

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> To me this movie isn't a bad movie, it's just not a good one. The plot is pretty decent, it's got some cool spy gadgets, and there's even a hot chick bitch fight scene (although you can't call it bitch fighting since one is a trained assassin and the other a IMF agent, but apples and oranges). The cinematography was decent, nothing to gush over (much like everything else in this movie). I recommend this movie to anyone who loved the first ones, or anyone who digs action movies. If you only thought the first three were alright I wouldn't suggest seeing this one. Again, not trying to bash it, just saying it wasn't a great original film.
(1981). What does this movie not have? It's chalked full of adventure, explosions, romance (not the kind that makes guys wanna puke), and ancient artifacts! What more can you ask for? Oh and did I mention Nazi killing??? Yeah. Throw in a riveting plot, superb acting, fantastic directing, and a (young) Harrison Ford (with his shirt half un-buttoned throughout almost the entire film) and you truly have everything a movie needs. Of course there are some things I would liked to not have seen...the snakes...oh dear God the snakes...I'll have nightmares forever (I have a phobia of snakes to a ridiculous extent).
Oh goodness...where to begin??? Let's start by talking about the genius behind all this...Steven Spielberg (with some writing assistance from infamous Star Wars director George Lucas)! This man had visions beyond anything imaginable in the film industry and made them a reality through the charismatic story of Dr. Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford). I mean everything about this movie is golden; from the cinematography, to the lighting, and even down to the special effects (you laugh at it now, but for 1981 that was some seriously cool shit!). The cinematography is great, the angles that are used to tell the story, put you right in the middle of the action, and make you feel like you're an adventurer just like Dr. Jones (well maybe not that real, but still, it's pretty great). And the lighting that is used gives it a really dynamic feel. In some scenes you get that menacing feel in the air, and in others you feel the light-hearted mood of the characters. While the special effects are greatly lacking by our standards, back then that was amazing! The way the ghosts come out of the Ark and the way the entire map room glows when Jones discovers the location of the Well of Souls...it's just so well done for the time! I can even talk about the soundtrack for the movie...I mean it all goes with the flow of the film and almost makes you want to use it as the soundtrack for your own life (my personal choice would be the Lord of the Rings Trilogy soundtrack, but that's a discussion for another time...)! I just like everything technical about this film.

Aw, he's so knowledgeable looking...

On to the acting! I must say for a movie with a lot of small actors they did an amazing job! My two favorites are Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, and John Rhys-Davies as Sallah. Marion Ravenwood is the head-strong daughter of Dr. Jones mentor (now dead) and while watching you discover they've got a little history that she hasn't let go of. Karen Allen does a great job of portraying her personality. Sallah on the other hand is Indy's kind-hearted friend from the past who John Rhys-Davies turns into a lovable teddy-bear-like character that everyone loves! I seriously just want a hug from him. I feel like it would just make me a happier human being. But I digress...they're both energetic and bring a lot to their characters that I love. Thank you to them both for their wonderful work.

...and now he's sexy!

Now (DRUM ROLL PLEASE) on to the star of the film......Harrison Ford. He plays the great adventurer Dr. Indiana Jones! And can I just say bravo? Harrison Ford you are a gorgeous man (well not so much anymore, but back in the day you had the stuff there stud!) and you embodied Indiana Jones so perfectly that I really can't see you as much more than him (or Han Solo, but that's the Star Wars fan in me trying to break free). I can't really say any more without just drooling over Harrison Ford so here it goes...he's so awesome! I love how he can look so cute in his glasses and bow tie then super sexy in his hat and adventurer get-up. Truly lovely. I love the fact that his shirt is un-buttoned almost the whole movie (and in Temple of Doom, while not as good as this movie, he loses almost his whole shirt in a fight). He's my current dorky-girl obsession (last month it was Batman) which is why I'm ranting and raving about him so much.
To wrap things up I just want to say you should watch this movie. I recommend it to almost anyone and truly think it's a good family movie (maybe not for some kids depending on your parenting views, but I don't see too much of a problem with kids idolizing Indiana Jones). I can't think of any really clever saying or quote from the movie to add (which is upsetting since this is such a good movie, but eh. It happens) so I'll just finish this up by saying you should watch it. If not for Harrison's charm and good looks then at least for the explosions and near-death experiences.AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-37302588283678182472012-04-14T22:30:00.000-07:002012-04-24T17:22:49.336-07:00The Devil Wears Prada (high fashion)
"That's really what this multi-billion dollar industry is about...inner beauty."
So much can be said for this movie in my opinion...it may not be an innovative film, or anything above and beyond, but it is still quite amazing. It shows how people can change and how life can affect you in the most difficult of ways. I personally love this movie (it's Meryl Streep, I practically worship her) and I think it's a really nice chick-flick kinda film. It's a nice one to watch when you want to have a night in with your chick friends. This movie has a tad of romance a multitude of fashion, drama, and no tear-jerking scenes.

The best part to me is the acting. Why does Anne Hathaway always play the ugly-girl-gone-pretty though? She's still a great actress, and in this movie it can be argued that it's flipped to pretty-gone-ugly (her personality anyway, her looks definitely ugly-to-pretty). Next I have to praise Emily Blunt for her outstanding work. She did so well as the hateful assistant! With all joking aside though she did really well in her role. I'm a big fan of hers as well. Another actor who I absolutely adore is Stanley Tucci. He's so amazing! I think he gets no credit for his amazing work and want to take this time to say, good job Stanley. Anyone that can make it in life with the name Stanley is truly great (seriously that's a terrible name). He is fantastic though (even if his name isn't). I must save the best for last; Meryl Streep. I'm in love with this woman! She's so amazing (I've said this about almost every actor I know). Everything she does she goes all the way and perfects it. She's just fantastic. What role can't she play?

Anne Hathaway after
(Bad personality, good clothes)

I can't really drag on about cinematography much in this movie, but I can rave about the wardrobe! This movie was the most expensive costumed film in history costing what is said to be over 1 million dollars. Yes, 1 MILLION dollars. I mean tons of real fashion designers wanted in this movie and can I say I want them all!!! Especially the olive dress in the picture to the right (the after picture). And the dress Andy (Anne Hathaway) wears to the event in one of the final scenes. To talk about the real impact this movie has I have to talk about certain scenes and the soundtrack. Some of the scenes, like when Miranda (Meryl Streep) is fighting with her husband and telling Andy of her divorce, the way Meryl Streep acts is great, and just the dynamics of the scenes are pretty fantastic. Like Andy being down the stairs looking up at Miranda (the fight scene). And when Miranda is sitting down without makeup on looking downtrodden (divorce scene). And the soundtrack plays an important role in the movie as well. While subtle, it flows with the movie. I can't name off all the songs and everything, but if you listen while you watch, you get the feeling of each scene better.
So while this movie may be no masterpiece, I believe it speaks for itself in the sense that it really is great. The actors and actresses were all amazing (the 5th or 6th time I've said it I realize), and the costume was of course fantastic! There isn't much you can say bad about this film and the only people who I believe don't like it just aren't into these kinds of movies. I recommend it mostly for girls, but it's one you could talk your boyfriend into watching with you without terrible disagreements (it's not chalked full of gushy romance and sad junk...plus there are hot chicks so he'll be more likely to watch). If you haven't yet seen this movie I believe you should, a million girls would kill for it (you'll get that after you watch it).AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-49786561856803926872012-04-14T20:39:00.000-07:002012-04-24T17:30:36.427-07:00Titanic (my heart will go on)

(There was a really snazzy introduction, but due to shitty formatting it got erased. I apologize)

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> Let's start with the overall movie itself. Can I just say that James Cameron you are a genius. I mean for 1997 this has great cinematography and is so well put together! I do have to make fun of some scenes though...the sex scene? That is the steamiest sex scene I have ever scene! I mean dang, I've never had sex that hot (I freakin wish though, haha)! And any scene with the mother in it...God that woman is such a bitch!!! I mean she is so evil, and James Cameron added little touches to make sure she comes off as more hateful (notice her features, and the fact that her hair

is always up in a tight bun. While a character like Rose has her air down half the time). And how about when Caledon gives Rose the necklace? He basically says, "Yes dear, I know you hate my guts, but I'm giving you this shiny diamond so you better open your heart to me," then proceeds to escalate to a violent state throughout the movie, eventually hitting her. And his only redeeming feature is that he has a large vocabulary, which I must say sounds absolutely ridiculous coming out of his mouth. He just has that air of arrogance and stupidity around him. At least Rose tells him what she thinks of him when she last sees him, calling him an unimaginable bastard and telling him she'd rather be Jack's whore than his wife. Power to ya girl! Although I will admit running to the level filling with water isn't your brightest idea (a sweet gesture, but a dumb sweet gesture). Another stupid idea was jumping off the life-boat. That did you some good didn't it? You're ex-fiance started shooting at you and your soon-to-be-dead-new-boyfriend. That girl did make some wonderful decisions didn't she? The final scene I want to poke fun at is when Rose and Jack try to save that small foreign kid after running from Cal...the dad comes up and yells at them in another language clearly upset. Yeah, some people try to help and you scream at them? I do hope you drowned kind sir. I hope the kid lived though. Ok I lied...there is so much more that I want to make fun of, but I'll pick just one more then drop it...why did Rose throw the heart of the ocean into the ocean at the end? I mean seriously...I get the point behind it, but seriously??? Your entire family would have been set for all their lives and you throw it inot the ocean...your mom was right, you are selfish!!! Let's talk about the cast next. While I'm not one of the girls that can find Leonardo DiCaprio sexy, I can see him for what he is, a fantastic actor. Especially in this movie. And Kate Winslet can I just say bravo my dear. You embodied grace in this movie then proceeded to tear it apart piece by piece. I can't even begin to name all of the great actors and actresses and they're parts. And I do realize some of them were still unknown at the time, but that doesn't make them any less great.
The last thing I'd like to discuss is the impact of this movie (although I'm not truly qualified, I have an opinion). To me it shows the true nature of people. In crisis we really do let our true colors show. For some it's sacrifice and courage, for others selfishness and greed. I'm not going to say these aren't the only types of people in the world, but I do want it to be shown that there is every type of person. This is why we have every type of extremist under the sun. That's about as deep as I'll get, so let's wrap this up...
As I watched the most depressing scenes in this movie I cried (yup, I'm a big sappy puddle of emotions, what can you expect?). I cried and cried, because it really is sad watching all those people die. And can you imagine what they all went through? It truly was a tragedy and I don't think a lot of people fully understand it. There were roughly 2,200 people on that boat...and almost every sinlge one of them died. It truly was a great tragedy and today of all days is a day to remember them.
I just watched this movie and absolutely loved it. To me this movie is about three people and the way they impact one another. It asks the question I always ask myself, "Have you ever wondered if this is as good as it gets?" Well, have you? In this story an OCD old man, an anxiety ridden woman, and a gay artist battling depression and parental issues tackle this question. And the beauty of it is they don't even realize it. I guess I only have my perception of this movie and what I take away from it to offer you, so here it goes.
This movie is so brilliant that I barely know where to even start...I guess I can start with the direction and cinematography. Both are (I truly hate to use this word so much, but I truly am at a loss for them...words I mean) brilliant. As far as the cinematography it's nothing compared to The King's Speech, but fro 1997 it's pretty great. At least the dramatic angles that need to leave an impression. To me I think the best part of this movie is the dialogue.
"How do you write women so well?"
"I think of a man and take away reason and accountability."
How do you disagree with that humor? You simply can't. There's a whole section where it talks about how everyone has their own serious problems to work out and Jack Nicholson's character, Melvin, states this isn't true. Some people's lives are all "Good times and noodle salad," which may or may not be true. The only way all of this is made possible is with good direction. Now in this instance I don't believe all credit goes to James Brooks, but without him I know this movie wouldn't be possible.

Greg Kinnear (as Simon Bishop) & Jack Nicholson (as Melvin Udall)
talking awkwardly over some Chinese soup

Now for who I believe the credit for this movie truly goes to...Jack Nicholson. He plays Melvin Udall magnificently, who is an older man with a severe case of OCD that completely rules his life. Oh and he's a romance novelist. Yeah. Apparently a good one, but still. Self-hating OCD romance novelist with no ability to maintain long-lasting relationships? Paradoxical much? But I digress, Jack Nicholson took this part and ran with it. He filled it perfectly and to my understanding improved several of the lines (not many, but still). Now, while he was fantastic, his co-stars were equally entertaining and inspiring. Helen Hunt as Carol Conelly was amazing. She embodied the single mother beautifully and was able to convey the fear that a parent experiences well (not that I would know, but that's what I mean. She made me feel like I did know). Greg Kinnear was also amazing as Simon Bishop, the gay artist. His agent gets him a model off the street who robs and beats him, making him entirely re-think his life.
I guess I gave away the portion I usually reserve for plot in with the character and actor explanation...but to recap Melvin, Carol, and Sam are mixed together in several unpredictable ways that ultimately change their lives. I would lump this movie in as an inspirational romance, which sounds rather odd (and for some very terrible), but I promise it's not. It's great and I believe everyone should watch it. At least for the good times and noodle salad.
Let me just preface it all with the fact that I bash Nicholas Sparks some so this should make a few of you happy.
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> So here we have yet another love story (to the extreme). Don't get me wrong, once a month I curl up on the couch with a tub of chocolate ice cream (that magically disappears...) and cry while I watch The Notebook right along with half the female population (a generalization I know, but a pretty true one), but come on...we all know Nicholas Sparks can write a heart-wrenching novel that will inevitably make you cry (and apparently become a movie?). So why do they all make it to the big screen? News flash ladies: THE HOT GUY GETS THE GIRL. Always and forever. Another news flash: THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE (yes, I know sometimes it does, but seriously girls in high school need to stop holding their boyfriends to the standards of Noah...he will not build your dream house and read you your life story when you get Alzheimer's).
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> Anyway, back to the movie at hand...The Lucky One. First off, why is this the title? Who is lucky? The lady who Zach Efron stalked? Or Zach Efron for being distracted by a shiny object (that just so happened to be a picture?)? I mean what if it had been a spoon instead of a picture? Or better, what if it had been a naked picture that said something very inappropriate instead of "keep safe x,"? I'm just saying, I think he took the whole thing a bit too far. Before you all assume I'm one of those girls that hates romantic movies because this has never happened to me, you're wrong (not about the fact that nothing like this has happened to me, it hasn't). I love romantic movies and right below the surface I'm a hopeless romantic, but movies like this annoy me because they just add to my completely unrealistic views of men in general. So thank you Nicholas Sparks, I do not believe you are a man with a kind heart, I just believe you are a douchebag (who can write one hell of a story). On a serious note, I do respect him (damn him for writing so well...).

My first opinion of this movie was based on the teaser trailer (above) when basically all the information you have is this (my version of a tobuscus literal trailer!): Army scene, Zach Efron picks up photo, *zoom* "keep safe x", explosion behind him, suddenly he's surfing the Internet (creepily finding where the picture was taken), then there's the girl in the picture! (Oddly in the same clothing from the photo?) Flashes of them together laughing, then she's sitting at a table and he says "I found your picture" she looks oddly freaked out, dramatic flashes of big cast members (and some sex scenes...I think 3 in under 10 seconds? Risky). And that's it. My reaction was literally this: So he finds her picture, meets her, explains his situation, falls in love with her, and they live happily ever after...? That sounds way too predictable and annoying. And honestly the movie did not look that great to me at all. I mean I'd probably end up getting it on DVD and watching it alone on a rainy day with more magically disappearing ice cream, but definitely not a movie I'd pay to see in theaters. Apparently there's more to the plot (I discovered this after seeing the 2 and a half minute trailer below) and I won't give it away, but let's just say I went from thinking this would be mediocre to a decent (yet still predictable) film.

My main problem is that they're going crazy with the love movies recently and it annoys me. Not because I'm single, not because couples annoy me, not because I hate romance, simply because you have to draw the line at some point. I know things like The Vow are cute, and The Notebook was an amazing film that gives all of us hope for love (and my opinion is never let that hope go, there is someone for everyone), but do wee need a billion movies with hot guys getting an attractive girl against some crazy odds or an unrealistic circumstance? I mean at this point we've damn near seen every story you can imagine (even some you really disagree with) and let's face it: It stops being cute and becomes a tad bit upsetting. Solely because of how unrealistic it is. Again, I don't say this out of bitterness (a word...I think), I say it because it's true. Every girl wants a guy that's romantic...maybe only when you're alone, maybe in a non-traditional way, or maybe even in a way that only you understand...you still want romance and the fact is for some girls these movies just set the bar too high. So I really hope they stop making these movies and stop creating sad hopeless romantics like me.
I didn't realize that was a rant until it was over, but I guess it was...well, my opinion is this movie won't be terrible, and if you're having a girls night maybe you could go see it, or if you're one of those girls you can drag your boyfriend to see it (seriously, do not be that girl. Nobody likes her). Go watch it, I'm sure it will make you go 'Awwww' and bawl your eyes out.AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-33313362179274772532012-03-28T21:22:00.002-07:002012-03-28T21:22:53.322-07:00The AristoCats (sophisticated!)

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">On this night of no sleep (due to crazy nightmares), thunderstorms, and broken promises I chose to review a wonderful Disney classic The AristoCats (1970). I mean how can you go wrong with wonderful singing and dancing French cats? You can't. As you can tell from previous postings, I'm kind of big on my childhood classics (being a 90s kid with parents who were stuck in the 80s/70s I mean anything Disney or anything made from 1970-2000) and, no surprise here, this another of my childhood movies! Personally I adore this film and can only give it outstanding reviews.
To start, the plot is fantastic (for mostly anyone, even adults in my opinion). It holds you're attention, keeps you laughing, makes you smile, and mildly (VERY mildly) suspenseful. I mean that in a sense that it keeps you wanting to watch it. And why wouldn't you want to watch? There are cute cats, waddling geese, adorable kittens, and crazy butlers (not even half the list!). It takes place in Paris and is basically about a crazy widow that loves her cats...a lot. Sounds creepy, right? It isn't though. The plot is acted out well that the woman doesn't scream 'crazy cat lady'. Her butler, Edgar (cool name right?), discovers she's leaving her vast fortune (how did crazy cat lady get a fortune? No clue. She's just French. Apparently they're all sophisticated) to her cats. He gets jealous and tries to get rid of the cats. If I say anymore I'll be giving away too much, so just go watch it (if you haven't already that is, and if you haven't then why? Seriously, classic Disney is just PART of childhood).

Seriously, you gotta love kittens :)

This movie has everything and not just in a sense with cats (as I've previously emphasized). The movie is a family movie that everyone can enjoy and laugh at. I believe this movie should live on through the years with just about every other classic Disney film ever made...(and some not so classics like WALL-E [2008]).
I mean this movie was such a big part of my childhood that I actually based my senior prom theme around a character, Marie (the only girl kitten). I have a pink dress and everything (pictures will be up after prom 4-28-12). As this post closes I wish to leave with a picture sent to me by my dear friend Kenley. Her words were, "If you get to do your Marie theme for prom you should have this attitude the whole time." And let me just say, I definitely will ;)
So why, might I ask, is there a new craze to re-make Walt Disney's beauty into a comedy AND a serious dramatic flick? And why in God's name are they releasing them in the same year? I must say this baffles me. So I'm writing this entry simply to pre-review these movies.

Let's begin with the more promising of the two, Mirror Mirror. This movie looks cute, funny, and FILLED to the brim with magnificent acting. Julia Roberts never ceases to amaze...ever. However, I'd really like to know where this idea popped up from? I mean Snow White with a giant comical twist and crazy costumes? Excuse me for preferring the natural adorable-ness (that's totally a word) of classic Disney, but I definitely do and no matter how great you are Julia Roberts you won't measure up to the Evil Queen of Walt Disney's classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs...

Now on to the more questionable (and in my opinion sheerly horrifying) of the two, Snow White and the Huntsman. So first off, was there a collaboration with these movies? I mean did a group of people get together and just decide to 'fix' Snow White then argue about which idea was better; comedy or odd battle film? Then finally decide on both? I'm genuinely curious. And I only see ONE good thing about this movie: Chris Hemsworth. Genuine Australian EYE CANDY! A lot about this movie intrigues me, yet manages to repulse me at the same time...for instance Kristen Stewart? Are we going to be able to see more than one expression on your face sweetheart? Or is it going to be Twilight all over again? Seriously, that acting was terrible and the only reason people liked it is because it was Twilight. At the same time I feel MAYBE this role would suit her better than Bella Swan...however I could be completely off mark and we could be staring at another several hours of an awkward teenage face... Another intriguing (yet terrifyingly odd) aspect is the Evil Queen. She seems truly evil, in a scary way. Were they going for a slightly mature adult film here? Because right now that's what I think...you've got a sexy Australian, an awkward girl (playing Snow White so maybe add beautiful?), and an VERY creepy Evil Queen...to me that adds up to odd sexual tension between hottie and (not that pretty) Snow White, and some murdering and (from the previews) apparent soul-sucking from the Evil Queen? Not appropriate for children. Perhaps this is like when Anne Rice re-wrote Sleeping Beauty?
So these three movies have about a total of three things in common:

Snow White

An Evil Queen (questionable for Julia Roberts?)

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Prince Charming (and lets add the Huntsman in the 3rds case)

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> I guess my frustration lies in the fact that to me Snow White is untouchable. I know both movies hold promise and personally I can't wait to see at least one of them (definitely Mirror Mirror). AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-41015335906853543252012-03-26T18:23:00.001-07:002012-03-26T18:23:09.525-07:00Julie & Julia<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I have been meaning to see this movie for a very long while due to one fact: Meryl Streep. Also I do love to cook so this was sort of inspirational to me. This movie is full of romance, great acting, intensity, meaning, and most of all it's all based on, not one, but TWO real stories.
I can start by saying this movie is worth seeing if you can sit through a good inspirational movie that tells a nice story (not for most people in this day and age I know). There is no spectacular cinematography as far as this movie goes, nor is there a perfect dialouge, but it's still got the quirky little things that I guess categorize it as a 'chick-flick'. It's funny, cute, and has a great easy to follow plot.
It follows the story of Julie Powell as she works her way through Julia Childs' Mastering the Art of French Cooking, as well as Julia Childs' life while she was writing the book. It shows the connection between the two and how one woman can pull herself up using the empowerment of another powerful woman...that definitely makes it a chick-flick.
No matter, it's still an excellent movie with great actors and actresses like Meryl Streep (my personal hero), Amy Adams (chick-flick queen), and Stanley Tucci (amazing man I must say). Their preformances were fantastic and they without them the movie probably would not be as good as it is. I must also say something about Chris Messina (Eric Powell in the movie), he was great and great looking ;) good job gorgeous!
I definitely recommend this movie to any woman who is a fan of Amy Adams or Meryl Streep, also to anyone looking for a good inspirational movie. Men may not be able to appreciate so just plan this movie on a girls night in (unless you prefer horror movies like my best friend...).AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-14585351088280553662012-02-22T18:58:00.001-08:002012-02-23T19:40:59.643-08:00Batman: A Legacy (continued) <span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> As previously stated, I am an original Batman fan. I was raised on the classic 90s movies so I'm a sucker for them. I also appreciate the generic idea behind superhero movies, full of one-liners and somewhat cheesey effects (but not awful, because it's expected). I realize with all our computer generated enhancements better movies are to be expected, but what happened to the good old days when you could at least appreciate the effort put into it?
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> I can however appreciate the idea to make Batman into a more real, graphic, and overall raw movie. This is done perfectly well in The Dark Knight. Everything comes together beautifully and (aside from Christian Bale) the cast is great. Of course all credit must go to Heath Ledger for playing The Joker so perfectly (but he'll get a paragraph later).
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> It's been a while since I've seen this, but it's a hard movie to forget. It comes together well, and honestly there isn't too much I didn't like about it except for of course the same things as Batman Begins. Also, I didn't really touch on this in the last review, but when did Lucius Fox become like Alfred??? I am a frequent watcher of Batman: The Animated Series (I know, not exactly the same thing) and I never remember Lucius being involved in Batman's life. Bruce Wayne and Lucius were close, and he of course helped run Wayne Industries, but he was never aware that Batman and Bruce Wayne were one (to my knowledge anyway). So I do dislike that they basically replaced Alfred with Lucious Fox.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> Now, for the greatest part of this movie; Heath Ledger. I'd like to preface this by saying that he did NOT get recognized for this because of his death. This was one of the greatest roles he played and he would have gotten praise regardless. He was a genius. He made The Joker come to life and managed to be better than Batman himself. Everyone loved his pure insanity and how well he fit into the role. It was just amazing and it's a tradgegy that he can never show his brilliance again.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Heath Ledger you are and will forever be missed.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> To finish up, this movie is great and if you have not seen it I have two things to say to you. One, have you been living under a rock? And two, go watch it. NOW.
AutumnBreeze21http://www.blogger.com/profile/10088967390500560337noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2957832502783069555.post-15799348449275310382012-01-11T23:57:00.000-08:002012-01-11T23:59:53.820-08:00Batman: A legacy

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> Batman. He is a superhero that everyone can look up to; a billionaire citizen who uses his money for good and all things humane. He is not greedy and, despite his lack of superhuman abilities, risks his own life to protect and serve the people of Gotham City. What isn't to love and look up to???

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> What does any of this have to do with film? Well considering there are at least 7 live action Batman films, quite a bit. Over the years the 'Dark Knight' has been portrayed by many actors including Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and (most recently) Christian Bale. Of all these I personally preferred Keaton, but this post is geared toward the more recent films Batman Begins (2005), and The Dark Knight (2008). Also to speculate the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

As I watched Batman Begins I could not help but lose interest, I know, I know, crazy right? How can you lose interest in a movie that is jam-packed with fighting, violence, action, and explosions? It's quite simple, I am a Batman fan. I am a fan of the original idea behind the Batman movies. I mean HELLO, we already got the back-story for Batman once in 1989 and I'm 100% sure he did not re-locate to Asia and learn martial arts from another white guy who just happened to be in a remote Asian temple in the middle of nowhere. That may be a little bias though (and considering I have not read the comic books with the real story, maybe a little presumptuous). So my other reason is also simple, Christian Bale. He just irks me. I mean I can appreciate a good actor that has the ability to play multiple roles such as George Clooney or Tom Hanks, but really Mr. Bale? You already had a good career history without playing Batman. And might I ask why you tried to play Batman as well as John Connor? Bad move...just awful.

But I digress...the movie as a whole was not as terrible as I make it out to be. With such a great cast and a well carried plot you really can not go wrong. Cillian Murphy is fantastic as the villain and (of course) Morgan Freeman is a great Lucius Fox. I still dislike Christian Bale, and I don't really love Liam Neeson's character either. However Christopher Nolan may have twisted my childhood view of Batman's back-story, I still must give him credit for writing and directing and overall decent film.

The Dark Knight is a whole different monster and as the hour grows late and this post becomes larger I feel the need to resume it at a later date.
